Concern that a healthcare professional will treat you with disrespect should never prevent you from getting tested.
Your health is far more important than what anyone thinks about you or what you do. If you’re not sure you’ll be welcomed with respect, or if you’re afraid of being judged, get in touch with an HIV organization in your area. Someone from the organization will either go with you, or refer you to healthcare professionals they know are respectful. Some organizations, like MIELS-Québec, Sidaction Maurice in Trois-Rivières, MIENS-Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean and REZO throught SPOT in Montréal even offer community-based testing services, in an environment where you can be sure there will be no judgement.
